dry camping

Just purchased a 2005 LXi and need some advice on dry camping. I cook
in bbq contests and sometimes no power or 110 only. Dealer says I will
have to use the generator all the time. Although the unit is all
electric, will not use the stove top or microwave while camping. It is
hard to believe I can't dry camp any length of time and then use
generator to keep batteries up.
Is the dealers advice right or does anyone have thoughts or suggestions?

Jerry, Your manuals should be of help here. Essentially the
generator
supplies 110 volts for things for which for lack of a better term I
will call house hold electric devices. Air conditioning and the
micro
wave are two items which in my old bus are only run when I am
plugged into a shore line or running my generator. The refrig can
be
run on propane and the lights and fans to the heaters are 12 volt
DC.
So I can dry camp and only run the generator If I need to use the
two
items mentioned or to watch television which in my ole girl is run
strickly on the 110 volt currents. Now, you have a much newer ( way
newer bus) and I have to think that in addition you have an inverter
which takes power from you battery banks to run some of your 110
applicances like the TV I would think certainly. This should be
outlined in your manuals and I am certain others with similar
equipment will chip in here. So the dealers is right and wrong. If
you camp with no electic plug in you will be limited to a degree as
to
what and how long you can run your verious equipment.

are the very proud owner of with out giving you a little more help

Hi Jerry, I dry camp all the time, things to consider, when driving
down the road with the inverters on and several other systems running,
it's possible to be pulling out more power from the house batteries
than you are putting in?
When you get where you're going, start the generator and run out the
slides and level the coach that way you don't pull down the batteries
first thing, batteries should only be discharged to 50%, or let the
auto start for the generator do it's thing. The refrigerator, if
residential style, will be the big draw. Nothing some solar panels
couldn't handle.

Jerry,
Dealer is right on for the most part. Your 120v refrigerator gobbles 30-40
amps of 12v power (via the inverter) each hour, so even a 4-6 hour period
will draw down your house batteries something serious, and that's with
everything else turned off, if you can.

Jerry,

You should have a blue box, ( portable file box), full of info on
your new coach.
If you don't use the air which even in the best case senario would
only be a few hours, befor you had to start the genny, You should be
able to go for three days or more if you careful, just using the
batteries and the inveters. Who did you buy your coach from? I'm sure
several peoplr will chim in here. I've gone several days without
plugging in, I did have to run the generator during the day for a few
hours just to keep the Batts. up but that really not a problem
unless you get into quite hours. Good luck

You should have a blue box, ( portable file box), full of info on
your new coach.
If you don't use the air which even in the best case senario would
only be a few hours, befor you had to start the genny, You should be
able to go for three days or more if you careful, just using the
batteries and the inveters. Who did you buy your coach from? I'm sure
several peoplr will chim in here. I've gone several days without
plugging in, I did have to run the generator during the day for a few
hours just to keep the Batts. up but that really not a problem
unless you get into quite hours. Good luck

nothing on the auto start for the generator and see no digital read out in
the coach as to condition of the batteries. Bought coach at Parliament.
Previous plastic coaches I had all had digital read out on condition of
batteries.

Hi Jerry,
Digital readout should be above driver on left "Intellitec generator logic
control" Hit the up or down button to change display Time- timer - coach volts
ac -Gen. total time and Ac off. If you have that unit, it will start genni
similar to dash switch. I haven't used auto start yet but will read that stuff
today. Let me know if you have that panel.
I find that battery depletion is too fast but I have found several fans and
pumps renning all the time. The cooling fan thermisters for the audio units were
set too low. The fan for the inverters ran all the time. There is a fan in the
2nd road side luggage that still runs Possibly the slide control stuff. With
the webasto- the recirc runs continuously- I think it shoud cut off when the
therostats aren't "Calling ".

Ross, thank you for the response, I believe I met you at Parliament when you
came back after going to Sanibel. I have the Intellitec control, but can
find nothing in the manual or in the box of files on this instrument. Let
me know if you find out about the auto start. I would like to know how it is
set. You are right about the various fans. They do run a lot. Have you
tried to dry camp any, since your coach is similar to mine?
