Dash Air not working should I disconnect belts from compressor ?
Not really wanting to fix at this time I was wondering if removing the
belts that are on the compressor in the engine pt-40 1985 would help on fuel economy or not? John Mann 1985 pt-40 Granbury Tx. |

If you disconnect the compressor, how do you plan to stop the coach?

I think he is talking about the coach air compressor by the thread heading. If the compressor is not frozen it just idle along.

Yup. remove the Air Conditioning compressor belts. No need for ware on them if the AC is not working.

Sorry ... I didn't see the subject line. AC compressor belts are no problem. Probably won't have any measurable impact on fuel economy, since the pulley 'free wheels' when the AC is off. Make sure that the belts aren't connected with the fan. (My coach has a hydraulic-driven fan-- no belts.)

I removed the belts first, then threw out the a/c compressor, then
threw out the condenser on the roof. All told, threw out 60 lbs. Didn't make a diff. on mileage. Still get a little under 6mpg. Run gen set and front roof air, and shut off back half of coach while traveling. Keeps us very cool. John,
The best way to get better fuel mileage is 'to keep the pedal off the metal'... Sea Ya Larry NYC 84 35FCSB ----- Original Message ----
