FMCA Ad: 10mpg on PT
I was quickly perusing the BB ads in my new issue of the FMCA magazine
this morning and noticed one dealer ad proclaiming 10mpg on I think it was an 86 PT36 w/6V92. I chuckled and moved on quickly. My old 83 PT40 with 6V92 never approached that magic number. Has anyone else's ever reached that lofty mpg figure on a PT? My 91 8V for sure isn't in that world! LOL Mike Bulriss 1991 WB40 "Texas Minivan" - claiming an honest 5+mpg San Antonio, TX |

5 mpg- uphill or downhill
if it was 6, I'd be elated
if its 4- I'll stay home

I don't have a PT, I have a 77FC35, but I am managing 9 to 11 mpg on a regular basis,
depending on how leaden my foot is and how hilly the terrain. My most recent run came in at 9.1, but it was very hilly terrain, We spent a lot of time at 72+ mph on the flat parts (really!), and there was about 6 hours of idling while we made various stops because I'm having an electrical problem that is making starting a PITA Dorn Hetzel 77FC35 Hogansville, GA

No comparison between a Cat and a DD. 10mpg is simply not a possibility in a PT
except for the duration of downhill runs. I think Shane has a 6v92. I bet he will tell the truth. Whoever posted that ad is smoking something, and it ain't cigars.

I've seen that ad for months now. I figure the dealer is trying to
stiff any unsuspecting potential stars in there eyes buyer, or he doesn't know his product. Either way, RUN!!! I have the 6v92. We got 6.1 mpg going down the east side of the Rockeys this winter. We were also pushed by 40 mph winds. We get an honest 5.5 on our best days. Wish it were more. Yeah, I get 10 mpg with a tail wind going down hill. I suspect that a 6v92 in a PT 36 might get close to 7+ mpg if speed is held below 60 or so. 10 mpg is a flat out exaggeration.
