Tricks on a re wire project
Good after noon to everyone:
I am working on my gen set and the following is the knowed up stuff: Symptom: Gen starts, runs 2 minutes and shuts down. 1. known facts, wire the fuel solenoid back and gen set runs with out put also runs, the yellow light in the center of the stop start switch goes out but I still have 110vac out put. Conclusion: 110 vac relay CR contacts are opening, thus the light goes out and causes the shut down sequence of 12 vdc relay 2-CR. Further conclusion; Since 120 vac out put is present, the contacts of 110 vac relay CR are bouncing open? Wrong relay was installed? burned or corroded contacts on wiring or relay contacts? Work in Progress: 1 Opened control box, checked for corrosion, yes there is. 2. Checked for proper relays; 110 vac Relay is wrong type, 12 vdc relay 1- CR is wrong type, 12 vdc relay 2-CR and 12 vdc relay C, contacts and wiring corroded. 3. Found part of the control box to have been re wired at one time or other, wrong size wiring used and wiring ends should have been wicked with solder before ring tongue connectors installed. 4. L1/L2 and Neutral wires loose on Terminal strip. Planned completion to be done; And a suggestion to all, go to an electrical out let and buy some wire numbers, get a bottle of alcohol and shop rags then before pulling on wire off anything, have your book ready, and double check wiring according to the diagram if no diagram then draw one up and mark each wire as you remove it. Clean a spot on the wire with alcohol, then apply a wire number, marking it down on your diagram. Never try to remember where wires go, 3 days later they will not go to the same place in our minds. Been there on that one. So bottom line is, get any wiring, pneumatic, hydraulic or electronic project done but take more extra time at the beginning. It WILL save you time and effort in the end, and replace components as needed but with the proper parts and not a knock off part that will only work one or two times.
