This is somewhat off topic but since the mention of no goat rails I
might mention that I met a gentleman (nice fellow) at the 'birds nest
last year who stated that he has owned several 'birds in the past.
With each 'bird that he buys the first thing he does is to remove the
rails on top. Perhaps one of his victim's???

Bob, when I was home this past winter, we have 13 pecan trees around our house. My coach sits under one of those- not only do leaves choke everything, but the pecans made great meals for all the squirrels that ate my wiring to my antenna.

Hi group,

My rails always seem to catch leaves,etc. because the bottom rail is so
close to the roof.
It's always a pain to drag the hose up there to clean the roof off.
Has anybody cut out the bottom rail between the screws that hold the
rails on?
My other thought is to just remove the rails altogether.
Purist's can holler, but I am more interested in what works to keep the
roof clean.
Any thoughts?

I had the same problem with my rails and they where also rusted. I
removed them so I could repaint them and I was suprised how heavy they
where.After I had them sand blasted I was going to repair the holes
etc. I decided to leave them off.I have also removed the latter and
will replace it with a anodized aluminum latter.I think the coach
looks better with them off and it also weights less. Lee Condosta 85 PT

Perhaps I'm a purist, but I can't imagine taking the goat rails off.
It might actually harm the resale value if/when you might decide to
sell your coach.

Yes, the goat rails are a pain. I live near several 150' tall
eucalyptus trees. For those who aren't familiar with them, they drop
leaves, acorns, and strips of bark constantly. These are a major pain
to clean out of the goat rails and from under the aluminum walks on
the roof. About all I could suggest is to perhaps raise the bottom
rail a bit to make it easier to push leaf little out from under the
rails.

The "Goat Rails" say "Wanderlodge", as does the A/C "Hat" on the FC
models.
They certianly make the Coach stand out from the crowd.
In a way, it is similar to my Jeep. To date, after I have parked
the CJ, no one has ever came over and asked, "Is That a Jeep"?
Some desirable items are meant to be unique..
