Break-in Recommendations
Hi guys and gals:
Anyone have recommendations of break-in of 8V92 after an in-frame rebuild? Official or un-official? R.E. (Ron) Marabito, Dallas, TX 92WB40 Coach broken in Calgary, AB |

Break-in Recommendations
My mechanic friend always says, "The best way to drive a 2-cycle
Detroit is with both feet planted firmly on the floor." Scott Forman 86 PT38 Memphis --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, Leroy Eckert > > My Detroit Service Manual states that after major work the engine shall be placed on a Dyno under various loads. It also is very clear that temperatures be monitored so as not to over heat the engine. Since that is not possible, I suggest you monitor temperatures closely on the return trip. It will get plenty of work from Canada to TX so you will not be able to baby it. I always ran in engines on aircraft and cars at full power. Don't personally know about a 8v92 but consider it in a boat. They are always under power. so what else could you do. So I would guess you drive it like you stole it. But then again, I am spending your money. > > Leroy Eckert > 1990 WB-40 Smoke N Mirrors > Dahlonega, GA > Royale Conversion > Purchased my coach with about 8K miles on an in frame. Probably Rob, but I want some consensus.

I'm with Rob, 8 years ago November our country came to a consensus.
I'm not into oil sampling because it wont prove much on used crap but starting fresh and new it may help your 'out of town' rebuilder chose some participation in follow up tweeking at your local shop. It might be that the Canadians give you different brakein procedures because they understand your return trip and their inability to make a follow up review???? may be wise to find a home town shop that can touch bace with the rebuilder prior to taking it in for a home town return trip review. That way they need not assume what and why things were done as-built. Greg94ptCa --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "ronmarabito2002" > > Probably Rob, but I want some consensus. > > R.E. Ron:
I just returned from a loop to Portland, OR and back to Dallas in my '87 PT, which had ~300 miles on the rebuilt 8V engine when I got it last June. I used 3 gallons of oil in 6500 miles, so I suggest you carry some extra for the trip home with the new engine. That's about 2x the consumption of my '85 6V. Might also have extra coolant, just in case. --M.R.Kane 1987 PT 40 1985 PT 40 for sale. --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "ronmarabito2002" > > Hi guys and gals: > > Anyone have recommendations of break-in of 8V92 after an in-frame > rebuild?
