Going to get coach

Going to get coach
One other thing about engine oil temperature is the oil temperature on my coach is measured at the top of the oil filter housing attached to the engine near the engine oil cooler. I plan to investigate the oil flow through the galley's but now believe the hottest oil is measured at the filter, then goes to the oil cooler which is cooled by radiator water through a heat exchanger then goes to the oil pan. Accordingly, checking the gauge against a heat gun should be accomplished at the engine oil filter housing vs.the oil pan. I agree an oil temp sensor for purposes of automatic shut down would be good but do not know if DDEC II has that capability.

Correct - the DDECII does not output engine oil temp, or it would be simple to rig an alarm with VMSPC when it reached some temp.

I do have an analog oil temp gauge, but it runs pretty high all of the time - I'm not sure I would notice unless it *really* went high!

Ernie: When mine was dumping coolant, it was pure pink in color. It
did not have any oil mixed with it, so it was only coming out the air
box. Unfortunately some was going into the oil.

included in the coolant level warning there is a sensor/sender with two wires, on puke tank a seperate module unit with five wires, some place?' and wires' .

If the sender makes contactto complete a ground to prove proper coolant level, a short in the sender or module or wires could cause a false OK to operate signal.

If the sender loosing contact and not delivering continious ground is the signal that puts the bus in ramp mode ( 4 cylinder power) then the ground to the module could be disconnected.

if you remember back toa 94pt postabout loosing one of two DDec computer 12v+powerlinks from the battery to the Ddec and the post claimed that it was the power to 1/2 the cylinders. Ikinda think half the power is a wierd way to wire 1/2 a computer and always wondered why his bus would run on 4 cyls. since ramp mode is 4 cylinders, may have been the ground in the battery area (where the coolant module gets its ground) that when cleaned up( in the blind search for a fix), finaly kept the bus out of ramp????????

Going to get coach
----Based on my personal research and discussions with BB after this
event occurred, the coolant level sensor (installed in the highest
point of the radiator coolant) should have sent the engine with a DDEC
II into Ramp Mode as all 8v92's with DDEC II were sent out from BB
with this pre programmed. High coolant temp may not have worked if the
water abruptly dumped into the crankcase but one should also expect
high tranny temps in this case also.----

Hi,
Probably not applicable here with the sensor not set up to shut the
engine down, but perhaps the info can be used somehow or for others.
A few years ago, my Cummins/onan genset in my boat lost its oil plug.
No doubt due to vibration, as the oil changes were always done by suction.
The diesel engine was toast.
Insurance paid almost all. $8700 minus about $16.00 for the low oil
pressure sensor that failed. The insurance wouldn't pay for the failed
part, but paid for resultant damage. I didn't bother fighting for the
$16.00 !

Ron could you please confirm, IF POSSIBLE, that your coolant leak did or did not result from a failure of one of those two coolant hosesgoing to the compressor. I ask this because I think a lot of people out there have aged coolant lines and a leak up high with these hoses may look like it came from somewhere else. You were there and have the best eyes so if you think it possible the leak came from a compressor coolant line your advice could be priceless.

Hi to all of you. I paid the bill in Calgary yesterday via direct
wire transfer. The good news is: the exchange rate saved me about
$4,000 dollars, so all is not bad.

I will fly to Calgary in the morning to pick up the coach. I will

have to button up the bedroom, since they wanted to charge me over
$600 labor to do that. I won't leave Calgary until Tuesday morning.
Plan to stop see a friend in Lewistown, MT hopefully the first night
out. Depends on how I have to run with the re-built engine. I will

take a route back home avoiding as much mountain driving as possible.

Once back in the US and further south, I should be able to get back
on line using my dish and I can give a report on how the engine is
performing.

Going to get coach
Your line of thinking is parallel to mine except the prints for my coolant level sensor show the switch open. If the drawing is for normal conditions including full water in the puke tank then presumably the sender closes forming a circuit in abnormal conditions ie. low coolant.????Then the module sends a prompt to the DDEC II to go to ramp mode and cut off impulses to 4 of the EUI's. Presumably, it also disables the cruise enable also. It seems if the switch is normally open, if circuit wires were shorted or the module was shorted internally the indication prior to start would be "do not start" and a stop engine light, but I do not have enough schematics or books on the DDEC II to figure it out. What do you think?
I want to completely understand this system if possible. Maybe someone else understands the thing. I have gotten this far by studying my master
coach prints, the generic systems in the DD manual, an overall generic DDEC II schematic and talking to Glen Rogers at BB. He was on the line when my coach was built.
The coolant module is in the lower load center in the front of the coach. It has 5 wires and is a DDEC system. Ignition hot, ground all the way to the batteries, (this ground is tied into the ATEC trans system and the cruise enable also), data wire to the ECM and two wires to the sensor.

I have gotten this far by studying my master coach prints, the generic systems in the DD manual, an overall generic DDEC II schematic and talking to Glen Rogers at BB. He was on the line when my coach was built.
The coolant module is in the lower load center in the front of the coach. It has 5 wires and is a DDEC system. Ignition hot, ground all the way to the batteries, (this ground is tied into the ATEC trans system and the cruise enable also), data wire to the ECM and two wires to the sensor.

included in the coolant level warning there is a sensor/sender with two wires, on puke tank a seperate module unit with five wires, some place?' and wires' .

High coolant temp may not have worked if the water abruptly dumped into the crankcase but one should also expect high tranny temps in this case also. The sensors on my coach which can only safely be checked by hooking up a tester on the DDL are, coolant level, low oil pressure, high water temperature, and low fuel pressure.I have an optional coolant level module also. According to BB all should give an alarm if working properly and initiate Ramp Mode within 15 seconds of an event occurring outside the pre programmed parameters in the DDEC II. The buzzing when the key is turned on checks the circuits integrity, not the integrety of the sensors themselves. I gotta
