It's time to start making your plans to attend the 2009 'Birds at the Beach (Myrtle Beach, SC) you can read all of the details about it in the flyer by going to http://www.pbase.com/iamflagman/image/104343072

We have set the date for this rally so that it will be held one weekend before the 2009 Hot Rod / Maxton Bluebird Mini Rally that way you can stay in the area for two enjoyable weekends of low keyed Blue Bird rallies and get more for your fuel expenses.

We need a volunteer to take care of coordinating the food, that has in the past been low keyed, with a night out for the excellent sea food that the area has to offer. If you are interested in volunteering, please email me at "iamflagman@aol.com"

We also need someone to coordinate a couple of workshops either for the men or the women, or both.

The weather here in South Carolina today was beautiful and even some of the
trees are starting to bloom, as the temperature climbed into the 80's. Yesterday
I talked to the reservations clerk at Ocean Lakes and they informed me that
there are only 12 camp sites remaining in our block of reserved sites, for the
2009 'Birds at the Beach (Myrtle Beach, SC) rally, so if you were
procrastinating about coming it is now time to make your reservations.

The fuel prices at the Flying J's here in South Carolina are;

Flying J Location-------------------Ultra & Low Sulfur
SCBlacksburg I-85 Exit 102------------1.979
SCColumbia I-20 Exit 70---------------1.769
SCLatta (Dillon) I-95 Exit 181A---------1.859
SCRock Hill I-77 & Hwy 901, Exit 73----1.809

Just an FYI- AVOID the last pump over at the Latta Flying J (next to the grass
at the RV island). Kelly and I stopped on Saturday night and it took 1-1/2 hours
to fuel up. The other pumps were not reading cards- so this was our choice, but
it pumps real slow. The gals at the fuel desk are of no help either! They said
that this particuar pump "always had problems". This was one of the worst FJ
experiences that I'd ever had. Better to use the truck islands and just pay 5
cents more! (they have not been giving out the "cash" price to RV's lately at
the truck pumps)

I usually use the truck pumps at Flying J simply because they're easier to get in and out of. (I made the mistake of using the "RV" pump at my first Flying J stop in Cheyenne, WY a few days after buying my coach -- it was a particularly horrible RV pump with a curving approach and relatively narrow lanes.)
When F-J offered some incentive for using the RV pumps last fall, I used a few between Virginia, across Texas, NM and AZ ... and found that most were less of a problem than my "first taste." However, the RV pumps deliver fuel at a much slower rate than the truck pumps. I did find that the notorious splash-back from the filler tube is considerably less with the slower speed pumps at the RV island.
I recently received a mailer from F-J offering a Credit Card (The Flying J Owner-Operator Cards) through Transportation Alliance Bank (TAB Bank) <https://www.tabbank.com/home/index.jsp>
This is a standard MasterCard, but Flying J's name appears on it -- and Flying J will give the cash price when it is used. Although it appears directed to owner-operator truckers, I don't know if there are any restrictions on a Bird owner from getting one. The FAQ on the TAB Bank web site does state, "Once you have filled out hte application, include the required business documents" and send in the application. The application form asks for a "business license #"
I would presume that there is a plumbing problem with that slow pump -- but it's probably buried deep underground and is not "worth" the expense to dig up the station to fix.

When FJ stopped offering cash discounts with the regular Rewards card on
September 1st I immediately applied for and received an RV Rewards Plus
Mastercard from TAB Bank. That got me all of the old rules again. Interesting
that there appear to be no links to apply for such a card anymore! I assume such
links existed on the site, but I'm not sure - I used a printed application
obtained at an FJ.

Actually, I followed a link from the Flying J web site: home page > Loyalty Cards > Tab Bank ... it's at the end of the comments about the Frequent Fueler Club card.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. If I follow that I see the Owner-Operator (truck
business) card you talked about.

What I have, and don't see offered anymore, is an "R.V. Real Value Plus
Mastercard" (I mistakenly said Rewards Plus)

I do not see any RV credit card offered on the TAB site today.
