Allison Transmission
I want to service my Allison transmission but was unsure which one I had. I
have the Bluebox paperwork but it lists two different model numbers: MT 644 and MT 654CR. The paperwork states "up to 300 hp." I was sure this 6V92 was 330 hp with the turbo. I don't believe the motor or tranny was changed - at least I have no reason to believe it. What's the easiest way to tell which tranny I have? Or, does it make any difference when it comes to the filters? Thanks. Jerry 85 PT40 Port Hueneme, CA |

Jerry 85 PT40 Port Hueneme, CA Hi Jerry, I used to own a 1984 ½ PT-36 with the 6V92 - 330 hp engine. That coach had an Allison MT 654CR Transmission. The Internal Filter kit that I used was Allison number 29502302 and the spin-on filter that I used was a Fram PH3519A. The Allison MT 654CR Transmission is a 5 speed and I believe the Allison MT 644 is a 4 speed. John 91 40' WB Batavia, OH |

The owner's or service manual should show where on the tranny to find the spot with the model and serial # info. For the filters, they may be the same if they are in the sane "family". You can go online to a filter website or Allison and cross-reference between the models. John Churchill 1980 FC33 |

Allison Transmission
You can either get the number off the service tag on the transmission or depending on where your ECU is for the shift panel it is usually listed on the box underneath that panel. If you have a serial number from the transmission a W.W.Williams facility or any Allison dealer will give you a hand. They will also be able to guide you in what direction you want to go for fluid be it synthetic or regular plus the correct filters.
