Air Scoop 1985 pt40?

Anyone put the air scoop on the back of the radiator on the pt40? Does it Do
Much? My temps on the engine water get to about 215 then go down to 195.
Obviously the fan is kicking on. Will the scoop provide much air being way in
the back? is it worth it?

You might need a new thermostat. Sounds like it's sticking and not opening at the proper temperature.

Right. The behavior seems to indicate limited cooling until the thermostats both open then the temp drops back to normal. Thermostats can fail slowly over time, so it creeps up on you. You can test thermostats outside the cooling system with a pail, a thermometer, and hot water ... but if you pull 'em out, you may as well change 'em anyway.

I don't know how effective a scoop might be in improving the cooling. Back in the day when I had a VW bus, a lot of folks put scoops on them -- but it may or may not have helped. (I had a 69 that had a newer design with improved cooling anyway.)

if you need a scoop after 24 years to keep it cool, something other than design
engineering is the problem. young people dont use cains.
