airbag air pressure
can anyone tell me if and or how can the air pressure in the air bags be
increased or decreased. seems that our ride has gotten somewhat harsh and have
new shocks and am playing with the air pressure in the tires. trying to make
the ride so as not to have the cabinets fall off the wall. well its not that bad
but could be a lots better.

Hi Ed:

The air in the suspension in our years of Birds are all or none. The
adjustment lays in the stiffness of the shocks. Even if there were a way to
soften the air bags it would change the ride height, change the handling as
well as other attributes.

You can check your blue file box for the info on your air suspension system, it will give the specs. on the proper height for the air bags for each axle.If they are out of the spec.there are 2 ajustment rods in the back at the drive axle, one is on the left side and controls how much all the air bags on that side of the coach are inflated and the one on the right how much all the air bags on the right are inflated. (These rods in the rear effect how level your coach sits side to side). There is one rod at the front (steering axle) this rod controlsthe proportion of the inflation of the front axle air bags to the rear axle or axles air bags. If you reajust this rod for more air in the front air bags the rear air bags will get proportionally less air pressure. You have
to check your suspension with your coach on a level surface and as allways take proper precautions blocking under the coach in case your suspension was to deflate unexpectedly, and moving or reajusting the positions ofthe rods will make the air bags deflate or inflate depending on which way you move them. You may want to call reputable dealer service dept. like Holland Motor Homes for additional tips.

If you play with your tire pressure you are playing with your life. Your coach weighs XX number of pounds and you need a certain tire pressure to support that. If you have ride issues, you need to focus on the air bag regulators. These coaches are designed to have a certain NON LEVEL operation with the front nose down about an inch which varies from model to model. If you have a sudden ride problem, look to a seized shock, broken mount, or a run away regulator for one of the 3 or 4 in your year's unit.
