Charging System with wild fluctuations.

Charging System with wild fluctuations.
I have a 1980 FC 33 Diesel that has suddenly developed wild charging
fluctuations. The Volt Meter will fluctuate between 10-14 volts very violently
and increase with engine speed. After about 20 minutes the fluctuation slows
but shows a discharge on the AMP meter. I rebuilt the alternator with same
results. Anyone with experience or comments would be appreciated.

Check and test the voltage regulator
check all the cables to the batteries I think you have a short or bad ground

Is your voltage regulator in your alternator or seperate and did you replace it?

is the belt tight? run it and spray belt dressing to see if it fixes the problem
prior to adjusting. I would drop it off at a good shop to bench test if it
needs to come off again. could be an incompatible part used in PO rebuild then
duplicated in your rebuild.
Stp makes a sticker about the size you need.

Do you have a 4th wire on your alternator for external voltage and charge setting? It runs down to the batteries for sensing. If that wire is damaged, your alternator usually shuts down from lack of excitation. You did not mention if the wild swing is excessively positive or from crap to great. Check for this wire or one like it that is shorted to the output terminal.
