Fuel Additives
I've owned diesel vehicles but never a BIG ONE. I never worried about
the fuel in the cars and trucks because I always drove them regularly
throughout the winter. With this BB it will be sitting most of the
winter although I do intend to get the bus out at least every couple
weeks and drive it until warmed up to circulate the fluids and exercise
her a little. Now with that considered what needs to be done relative
to the diesel fuel. I certainly will not be used large amounts of
diesel over the next couple months. Should I add an additive and what
would be best? I assume its best to keep the tank full as well.

John,
You are correct in keeping the fuel tank full. It keeps condensation from
forming inside the tank. I use Stanadyne Fuel Additive on the advise of the
owner of a local fuel injector repair shop that I had dealt with for years
before retiring. I am sure their are other good additives on the market.
I read once where a fellow had designed a secondary fuel filter system. He could
filter his fuel while the coach was in storage without running the engine.

Yes Gary, I would say that I swear by Lucas Fuel Injector Additive. Treat rate is 1 quart for every 100 gal. We had a check engine lite come on in our 1988/89 8V92 last summer as we were traveling through Salt Lake City, UT on our way to Carson, WA our summer workamp. The code appeared to be 31 indicating a long injector time. Since I retired as a petroleum chemist 3 years agol I didn't immediatly make the connection until we were on our way this fall to our winterworkamp in San Antonio, TX. I added3 quarts of additive and within a couple of hundred miles the check engine lite went out and we once more hadfull power again. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense sincemost fuel sold today has only lubricity additives to meet minimum ASTM requirements, but no additives to keep injector deposits from forming unless you buy
premium fuels for 3-4 cents more.So I am going to add additive about1000 gals of fuel to keep this old girl running well.

I also use Lucas Fuel Injector Additive in my Bird (6V92) & my Ford
Powerstroke (7.3). Much smoother running engines & always easy to
start, except at -30 or so....



I have also used the Power Service products but I like the Lucas much
better. It seems to clean the injectors better.
