Help... Hydraulic fluid leak ..... Just had her worked on!

Hi Bluebird Kids,

We took Blue out today for a propane fillup and had a great time and JUST wanted
to keep DRIVING... somewhere... anywhere... She is great.

BUT on our return, we slipped her back into her space and got her up and
leveled. Then as we were finishing up, Captain D (my husband) saw hydraulic
fluid on the ground around the front curb side tire. (our hydraulic fluid fill
is in the step in the entrance).

We had gotten the hydraulic system worked on and they said it was good but
needed a service... so they cleaned her up, put in new seals, and topped off her
hydraulic fluid.

Now today was the first trip since we drove her back from the hydraulic system
work was done.

ANY IDEAS out there?

If you had the HWH jack system worked on, they may have put too much oil in the
reservoir. HWH told me that if I overfill it, don't worry, because the excess
will be expelled. It's hard to read the level with their fill plug gauge.
Someone told me to use a small dowel, screw driver or some other small diameter
object, stick it down in the reservoir and check how much is in, compared to the
total depth.

Before I had my jacks serviced at HWH in Iowa, I had overfilled it and had a
spot of oil under the coach for about 2 or 3 months.

It is very probable they overfilled the reservior and when you used the jack system it spewed out.

With the jacks retracted, the tank oil level should be 1" from the top of the tank.

now the vent needs to be cleaned if that is where it escaped or the jacks will
begin to retract slowly. It could also be that the vent is plugged and the
retracting fluid pressurized the reservoir and pushed fluid out a non pressure
side hose clamp?????

the level will rise when the volume of oil increases.: if it was serviced with 1
inch from the top (as some one suggested?) and if after working the jacks and
again retracting, the level rises or overfills, there is too much air mixing
with the hydraulic fluid. this happens when 1-two fluids are incompatible or 2-
not proper makeup or 3-if the pump sucks air.
volumn also increases when the pump bearings are shot and heat the fluid up, but
that will not happen when you retract as the pump doesnt run

THANKS ALL who gave us ideas on the probable reason for the hydraulic leaking
out. We will look into all suggestions AND thanks for the answer to what the
required fluid quantity should be... One inch from the top... THANK YOU ALL SO
MUCH...

THIS GROUP is the BEST... We are newbies and read our blue box and blue
books... but sometimes it's hard to get all the info.
