South of the snow ..
I'm contemplating taking my 'bird South in December (from Michigan) and parking
it somewhere and then coming back in February ... running around the South for a bit ... then parking it and leaving it until spring. Does anyone else out there do this ? Can someone give me a recommendation on how far south I should take it to be able to leave it (without being heated) and not run into issues with weather from December to February ? Should I look at a storage facility ? Or just take it to a RV park and try to negotiate a low/no use parking rate ? First time at this ... I'd appreciate any comments via email martys@... is great ! |

You just may be starting something new. Imagine, snow birds? Actually, tens of thousands of our northern neighbors leave the snowbelt every fall and "winter" in AZ, TX, or FL. Most of them return to the same place they spent the previous winter, and make (and pay for) reservations a year in advance. Winter time is "high season" in those places, and getting what you are asking for may not even be available for this coming winter. You need to winterize your bird just like you were going to keep it in Michigan unless you get far enough south that freezing temperatures are highly unlikely to occur. In FL, that generally means south of I-4. Snowbird season runs from Thanksgiving through Easter. Bring money!

I don't know who runs it, but there's a ludicrously huge RV and other toy storage lot in Sun City where my father in law keeps his rv and boat and I don't think he pays much at all.

I would stay at or south of east west I4 Tampa Orlando.
There are many RV parks with parking storage also many storage facilities, depends on location & price you are willing to pay.
