API specifications
I need to change oil on my Pekins generator. The oil specifications
given on the owner's is obsolete {1985). Can anyone tell me the oil specs for a
Perkins 108 diesel?

API specifications
i would suggestusing any CI/CJ 4 spec oil in the proper viscosity grade, probably 10W30.
API specs change regularly (about every 4 to 5 years) to comply latest EPA demands on emisions. The nice thing is that upgrade specs are backdated. In other words you can use new oil specs in old engines with out doing harm. The only exception that I know is oil for the 6V92 and 8V92 DD which are 2 cycle and REQUIRE SAE 40 in summer and SAE 30 CD-2 in winter.

I use 10 w 30 in my old Perkins- she still runs!
