Bendix cruise control creeps
Hi All
I have an '86 PT40 with the Bendix cruise. Last season it didn't work and this winter I gave it the once over (everything worked) but now I have a new problem .... it creeps up in speed. It will run fine for miles, and then all of a sudden we're from 65 to 80 ... sometimes going UP hills. Anyone else experienced this ? Is there something I should do to "clear" the memorized speed other than using the brakes ? Marty Spaulding '86 PT40 Kalamazoo |

Bendix cruise control creeps
Marty:
There is a re build kit for the cc5 cylinder, which sticks a little or acts slow. Then you may have an o-ring leaking slightly on the set valves. Is your throttle a little slow acting when you push the peddle? It does not sound like the control unit. In your manual, you will find a trouble shooting guide, but were it mine, I would suspect an o-ring leaking past. Bendix cruise control creeps
Hi Marty- I second Ralph's suggestion about a dirty valve on the cruise assembly
or a sticky air throttle cylinder. Once on a trip across Iowa, mine started behaving the same way- but it turned out to be a broken throttle return spring- check those too. The combination of the sticky throttle cylinder and a broken return spring will make for quite a thrill ride!
