This week's Bird of the Week

This week's Bird of the Week features that rock & rolling (over)
couple Rick & Rosie Archie (aka: 'Rich Rick', who can fix anything,
per Greg O'Connor).

For you newbies and wannabes out there questioning the safety,
strength and quality of Bluebirds, Rick and Rosie have the dubious
distinction of being the couple featured in the "Photos" section in
the albumn entitled "BB Wreck". When faced with a choice of killing
any surviving the occupants of the vehicles that had just crashed in
front of them (visible in picture 1 in the albumn) they gallantly
headed off the road to avoid them, sacrificing their first Bird, but
not their bodies. They walked away virtually unharmed, well, maybe
Rosie hobbled a little after breaking a toe kicking out the front
windshield so they could get out. After that experience they were
pretty much sold on Birds and they quickly replaced that Bird with the
one shown in the picture.

As for the 'snake-infested' state park, it's not really, but Rick will
have to explain that one!

In the meantime, I am once again about out of new Bird of the Week
pictures, so send in your favorite shot of your Bird....

As they say, you could tell the happy Harley owners by the bugs in their teeth....

Why Arizona is located in Pima County in the Tucson metro area. It is named for a "Y" shaped intersection of State Routes 85 and 86 adjacent to the community. It was called "The Y" until residents petitioned for a Post Office when the name was changed to Why as Arizona state law required town names to include at least 3 letters. For safety reasons, the highway intersection that provided the name was converted to a "T" intersection a few years ago.

I note that railroads refer to a triangular track arrangement (similar to the configuration of the highways) that allows a train to turn around as a "wye."

There are also several rivers and towns with the name "Wye."

This week's Bird of the Week was a long way from it's home nest when the picture
was taken. Over 3,300 miles per the sign post. The pictures show the Bird in
the background of the mile marker sign post and on the highway.

Sometimes, there is too much interesting information attached that can not fit in the caption. Such is the case this week, so I am including the note Johnny Sloane attached about his Bird and the photo (I highlighted the unique features):

"The coach with the trailer is a 98 LXI 41, a prototype which I am told was the first LXI built. This coach has all the features of the 43 foot LXI, 1 slide and it is in the bedroom. There is an interesting story behind the slide. Johnny M. Slone of Pikeville, Kentucky is the owner. The green coach is a 95 PT 40 belonging to Tommy Bowling of Dorton, Kentucky. We were traveling to Pigeon Forge Tennessee for the Shades of the Past car show, an annual event for us."

Maybe Johnny will see this and post the rest of the story about the slide!

Fun to see Don and Joy Bradner in Newport, OR. We stayed in that same campground with that same view a few years ago. Isn't the Oregon coast fantastic, though?

We enjoy the Oregon coast immensely (except a few trips where the rain never
stopped!), and travel at least portions of it at least twice a year. This is our
third time doing the entire coast (up in Seaside now) and I'm sure it won't be
the last. There is a lot to see and do around Newport, and we've done the
aquarium a couple of times.

Geowoodstock VIII is in Carnation, Washington over the 4th weekend, and that's
the destination this trip.
