Chuck. I replaced the valve on my 83 PT with Alfa valve from Grainger. Had to make minor change in mounting but easy to install. Hope this helps.

We developed a bad leak in the ARO step control valve during our trip last weekend. The spool valve was easy to rebuild using “O” rings from the faucet section of ACE hardware (3/4” X 1/8” thick - $0.29 each). The problem is that the rubber on the back port of one of the pilot air valves is bad so there is a leak when it is energized. There used to be kits available for these valves but I can’t find any since IR bought ARO.

- Has anyone found any parts to rebuild one of these valves lately?

- Or does any one have an old valve around that I could buy for parts?

- Or, lastly, does anyone have a part number for a valve that would replace the current one? (ARO Part#5840-2929-02)

We head north for the holidays and in very cold weather even a small leak creates problems.

ARO Step control valve

Chuck,
I also replaced both the step and generator valves with the A212SD012 valve assembly. Bought them from Stearns Corp. in Houston cost about $120.00, but that was in 2006. I had trouble with one of them and got a repair kit, primarily the spool valve, from Applied Industrial Technologies here in Austin. Cost was $32.00 in 2008. Applied has an office in Dallas (972-506-0612) and Arlington (817-649-3094). Their catalog lists A212SD--- valves, but only in 120 volt and 24 volt. Hope this is of some value to you.

I have the same problem. When it is cold, that thing leaks air like crazy. I usually keep the step out till the temps warm up.

Ernie,

The cylinder is easy to rebuild. There is
a little shop in Hurst
that has all the seals. I just take the cylinder number to him and he puts
together a “kit”.
