stainless steel roof fasteners
Has anyone ever used stainless pop rivets on the stripped out ones? Is it better
to use a lag screw or a larger sheet metal screw. I always thought lags were for metal to wood fasteners. Has everybody have good luck using the lags & what size would be the biggest? Has anyone put in additional screws in between the other striped ones? Don Spithaler 89 SP 36' Butler, PA |

I won't comment on using pop rivets on you roof deck. I suspect your
considering pop rivets because using conventional fasteners there doesn't seem to be a good alternative that is larger than the #14 screws BB used. I found a successful way to deal with the stripped out screws on my roof deck plate. After extensive searching I found a stainless steel product called a "Strap Screw" that is available in a #17 screw size, slightly larger than the #14 screws that BB used. The strap screw has a .10 thick washer under the head that has an EPDM washer bonded to the SS. These screws fastened securely to the 20+/- stripped out holes I found on my roof. Source of these fastener includes McMaster Carr (mcmaster.com). Part number for the 3/4" long Strap Screw is 91644a821. I used 3M #5200 as a bedding compound for each of the fasteners. |
