Cruise control problems.
My cruise control has become erratic. Not only does not always engage,
once engaged it drops off after a few miles. The drop-off seems to occur when the system attempts to adjust the throttle position. This happens when I either crest a slight hill or start down an incline. I can feel the throttle being backed-off, then the control drops off. I have down-loaded the files on the subject but am hoping that someone out there might have some more exacting insight into my problem. Art Weatherly Riverside Ca. '85 PT36 |

Been having the same issue with mine. I suspect some kind of air servo that is
getting leaky. Have not had a chance to chase it down yet. Will post when I find something. Cruise control problems.
Check connections to power realy and then you may need a rebuild kit of the
CC-5 I think those are still available from the out fit in Seattle for around 50.00 plus shipping. The Cruise and air throttle, both operate off of about 10 psi difference from the total system air. Ralph - What's a CC-5? Also, do you think an 80's FC uses a similar (King

Cruise control problems.
I'm not Ralph but I just installed one. Its a rebuild kit for the Bendix air throttle unit. Not sure if the FC's used it too, the older PT's did for sure.

Cruise control problems.
Bob: the bendix cruise was used up through the 89 Birds that I know of. The
King Cruise is an aftermarket add on. The cc_5 cylinder is what moves the throttle and gives the analog movement of an air cylinder a digital signal for the control. This is done by the rheostat or variable resistor on the rear of the cylinder. It is usually a blue color and must be handled gently as it is obsolete of course. The 2 solenoids that are mounted to the top of the control box is what meters are in a positive or negative pressure to the cc-5 and the rheostat send positioning data back to the control. To the end of the cc-5 cylinder is attached the cable that moves the bell crank of the throttle. Now then. The inversion valve gauges the pressure build up in the system and is designed to vent the cruise air pressure to atmosphere when the control set point is reached and drops the cruise out. Much the same as the electrical signal from the break will drop the cruise out. Cruise control problems.
I don't know if this was ever resolved, but I had this issue on my 87FC35. I
have a ZF transmission with a trans retarder that is somehow air controlled. When the trans retarder is engaged, the brake lights come on. A small air device has gone out and was intermittently activating by itself, thus flashing my brake lights as well as turning off my cruise. There is a prior message that has my name on it that explains the failed device a little better. If you go to Randy's site Bill Pape and others have lots of info on the Bendix
system. I dont think any parts are available. The ZF uses a hydraulic retarder.
