Clearance required

I'm still at it, trying to find a suitable coach that will fit in my warehouse.

Can anyone tell me the clearance height of a BlueBird BMC 37?

I realize this is not a BMC forum, but just maybe someone here knows and would
tell me.

You might want to call some of the local metal building guys in your area and see how much they will charge you to put a different height door in your building. Might not be too expensive.

Wish I could, but it's a condo warehouse space and the header is poured
concrete.

The door openings are 12 feet, but clearance is a little less than that - maybe
11' 9".

Joe,

OK. Close call. Now that we know that, I think an FC should be no problem
clearing. An SP I'm not sure about.

But an added question becomes what is the height of an 80s model PT or SP with
the suspension down? I suspect about 11'8" or so. Maybe Bob can measure his for
you.

In the end result, the only way to be sure before buying is to precisely
measure the door opening and the Bird you are interested in with suspension up
and down. Too many variables to be sure without actually measuring (Original
size tires? Any incline into the door opening? What's added on the roof?,
etc.). Is your approach into the doorway level with the interior floor?

In my case, I have an incline into my building on the front side. My 83 PT40
cleared my door frame with room to spare, but my 91 has to have the suspension
dropped to clear after I get halfway in.

Well Joe, here is a partial answer:



My BMC-37 will fit into my whse with a nominal 12ft door.



But the details may not apply to your circumstances...

1. The high point is a centrally mounted satellite dome that
   exceeds the A/C by several inches and not all sat domes are
   identical.
2. The low point on the door is pretty close to 12ft, but I have
   not measured.
3. The door must be specially tied back so not to be lower than
   the door frame.
4. The ground entrance to the door is not level, the outside
   drops some 6in? for rain run-off.
5. Clearance is less than 2in ... the antennas need to bend a
   lot.
   

So the answer has quite a few variations?

[I partially backed in while fully aired up with friends watching
from several vantage points :-)]

Bluebirds seem to be 12 feet, plus or minus. The same model can vary by inches,
depending on tire size , ride height, & stuff on the roof. If you are
considering a 12 foot door, some Birds will clear others may not. If a few
inches are an issue, dumping the suspension will help lower the height by a few
more inches. Several Birds were measured last year at a Rally, there is a chart
in post #20.

Depending the type of door and door track mechanism, the door may be able to be
raised higher into the ceiling. Other have lowered the floor especially at the
entry point.

Let me thank all of you for the info and insight.

It appears that a FC would be fine and most likely a BMC as I'm also limited in
building depth of 37 feet being the absolute maximum I could put inside and
still walk (squeeze) around the back of the unit.
