Sharp or GE Convection/Microwave Oven?
Howdy, Y'all.
I am going to replace the original Sharp Convection/Microwave oven in our 1993 WL. I am trying to decide between the Sharp or a GE. Please offer your ideas, opinions or recommendations on either oven. Thanks, Liz |

Sharp or GE Convection/Microwave Oven?
Hi Liz,
We used the GE Spacemaker Convection Microwave in our Bus conversion and were quite happy with it. That was some years ago and now they have the new Advantium (sp) which uses light or something to do all the good things that the convection/microwave would not do plus all it would do. I see a lot of them in the high line coaches these days. Supposedly you can take a pork roast out of the freezer, put it in the Advantium and it will be ready to serve in 30 minutes, all browned and everything. That is what we will have for our next one. (Been praying for the Sharp to go out.) When at the Home Depot the other day, I happened on a person who was very knowledgeable. He tells me that the Advantium is made for GE by LG (the people that make cell phones etc.) and that LG is about to market it under their own name. In fact, LG invented the system and GE pays them a royalty. The LG is supposed to be available at less cost. I suggest that you check this system out.... First recommendation. Measure the height width and depth and make sure it
fits. That may limit you to which one you chose. Funny thing about who makes that technology. The sales weasel in Sears showed me a Kenmore that has the Advantium technology and he said that GE makes it for Kenmore. We just smiled and nodded. As Jack works for GE, he knows that GE doesn't make too many things anymore. I'll put a yes down for the GE model. Thanks again, Liz |

Sharp or GE Convection/Microwave Oven?
Liz,
We replaced our micro/convection oven with the Sharp available at Wal-Mart. It is the only micro/conv model they offer. The unit is much smaller than the originial Sharp oven (and a liitle deeper). There is not much available--this unit was the most practical for us. The oven generates a LOT of HEAT. I installed a squirrel cage blower in the extra space above the unit. The vent blows a least as much hot air as one of the LP heaters. I also put a piece of engine insulating blanket between the back of the oven and the coach wall. You may not have these problems with a '93. Be sure and look at the back of any oven you a considering. The newer models are not flat on the back. Hope this helps, Bill & Rita in Roanoke, VA 1987 FC-35 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
