Can't get Generator to run A/C
Yesterday we were driving I 90 in Western Montana, it was quite hot
so we turned on the generator to run the roof air conditioners. The generator started and ran fine but there was no recognition of it running any 110 appliance in the motorhome. No roof a/c, no microwave, no indication on the Xantrex panel of charging. So we we are not getting 110 anywhere in the coach from the generator. Any thoughts on why and what we can do? Earlier in the day we ran over a road alligator but the only damage we could see was on the passenger side rear tire surround. So we don't know if that had anything to do with our problem or is coincidental. Julie Bonser 1992 WLWB PT 40' in Osburn, Idaho ready to leave for Cheney, WA |

Julie,
Did you check to make sure both legs on the generator were not tripped? We have dash readouts neither one showed any output of electricity
when the generator was running. When we plugged into shore power we had power on both legs and were able to run all 3 a/c. The last time we ran the generator while running down the road the a/ c worked. Not sure what caused the change. Julie,
I just double checked my generator. I have a reset on the generator and also a 25 / 45 Amp switch. If either one needs to be reset, you will not get 110 power. We just reset the breakers for the gen set. No change. We checked to
see if the blower is operating when the gen set is on and it is not functioning so apparently no power is going out. We will probably need to get service somewhere. Any body have recommendations for a good shop in the Spokane, WA area. Julia,
In that era, I believe they were using the Todd Relays which were notorious for failing. (Which is one of the reasons they are out of business today) I would check that it is functioning. However if the blower is not running, I believe it is more a sign that the alternator is not putting out at all. Have read of several people having that problem lately. I would call Power Tech in FL and see what they can do. Can't get Generator to run A/C
Thanks for the information George, we will phone Power Tech. We have
an appointment Monday with Cummins/Onan to look at the situation. The rest of the places could not get to us until late next week and I have a high school reunion a week from Saturday in North West Oregon which I will attend.
