Thanks, Mike. I was told that SPs delivered more useful torque because of not
having the long driveshaft. I'm glad to hear of your positive experience with the FCs. They seem to provide more bang for the buck, as it were. You'll be OK with 300hp FC. I wouldn't want to use a SP for mountain climbing,
all it can do to pull its self. Make sure the cooling system is in excellent shape, hoses, belts thermostats and water pump. The fuel system is another area of potential trouble, particularly the pusher pump located just ahead of the rear axle on the curb side. If you mechanically challenged, consider a new unit with a warrantee, not a jab just a fact. Wanderlodge can be a major money pit if you have to hire out all work needed. When I had my service trailer, it weighed 11000 pound loaded with tools and with the Jeep GC in it as well. My '85FC with the 250 T pulled it nicely on the flats but really slowed on the hills. In truth, it was a little too much for the 250 T in the hills on grades. The 300 with the 5 spd would not have had a problem with that weight. I made grades like the Grapevine at a whopping 15 to 20 mph and she got warm but not overly.
