Yep, 83 rear bath shows 31,100 on the Cat scales, half full water and fuel
tanks. Went down the road to the other truck stop and their scale showed 500# more on the steer. I'll go with the Cat scale. I do know the under carriage on the 87 and up FCs look a little lighter duty compared to the older units I've inspected but I don't know what they weigh out at, but one less air, smaller gen set, plain interiors. I expect under 31k. I have towed a Chevrolet Astro in an enclosed Wells Cargo from Florida
to New York with my 89 SP. Without checking the weights, my guess is that the combined weight was between 6 and 7,000 lbs. While I knew it was back there, it performed fine with no hint of overheating. If you wanted to on a good open road, it would cruise at 75. Have not put it in the mountains but would not be afraid to try. These things do not sprint up hills but they always make it to the top and I expect it would do so with a trailer.
