VOIP Test over Verizon Wireless Broadband

I tested three VOIP Options on the Verizon Wireless Broadband..

1) Yahoo New Messenger with Voice

2) Skype

3) SipPhone

My sipphone is 747 602 0360

All three worked well and they are free and run thru my Notebook.

I did test from my home with the full speed access averaging 1000+
down and 100+ up speeds.

I used headphone with micro on my Notebook to avoid feedback.

All 3 offer option of dialing a normal phones for an extra charge.

Sipphone has a conference call option that can used to have multiple
callers on the same call. Skype has an option for multiple callers
also but I have not tested this feature of Skype. Sipphone is not
propriety so more compatible than Skype and Yahoo Phone..

Anyway .. I was very pleased with the performance and I was able to
talk for over 1 hour with multiple friends....

So the bottomline is Verizon Wireless Broadband when in full
Broadband mode will support VOIP....

More info to help those mobile Travelers that want to stay in

Satellite TV ....
I have Dishnetwork at home. Dishnetwork allows an extra receiver
for $5 per month on top of your regular bill. If you want to skip
the $5, you can haul the home receiver out and install temp in your
coach... but I am too lazy so I spend the $5 per month. Right now I
have a tripod portable dish but I am considering the roof mounted
setup available from campingworld. But I understand that it is good
to have the tripod for times when you park where you can not get
dish reception.

Verizon EVDO Wireless Broadband ....
The V620 PCMCIA card available from Verizon and other websites for
as low as $19 with a 2 year Verizon contract has dual ports for
external antennas. I have a suction cup external antenna that will
stick on a window but so far I have not had to use it to get decent
reception where I camped in Washington State.

Anyway .. Alot of options out there. I am learning more every day.

One twist on the new $60 unlimited Verizon Wireless Broadband is
that they do require you to also have a Verizon cell plan which is
not problem for me since I have a family plan with 3 V710 Verizon
cell phones used my my wife, daughter, and myself. If you do not
have a Verizon cell plan the cost is $80 per month for the Unlimited
Wirelesss Broadband Service (at least that is what I was told by the
Verizon Customer Service Rep).

Randy's got the deal for the satellite TV.

If you caught much of the recent, somewhat heated discussion about
EVDO vs. Satellite, you know my standing, on the comparison between
the two, no need to rehash that.

I don't know where you stand on the "Fixed Income" to "Money is no
Object" scale, but what Dave Beatty has done is replace his DSL at
his home with the EVDO from Verizon, and also tested the VOIP (Voice
Over Internet Protocol) services running through the Verizon cards.
this means that you can have only One account, and use VOIP services
for phone, eliminating the need for a seperate Cellphone. There are
some sacrifices in portability, coverage and ease of use, but if
you're on the cheap, $60/mo is a pretty good deal to cover all your
communnication needs.

I would get the Kyocera Data Card, it costs more, but it has
provisions for external antennas.

You want that in a coach, it allows you to install an external
antenna and an amplifier, greatly improving coverage and speed.

I presume you have a laptop, right?
