Am I correct in assuming that most BB's utilize a 12X22.5 (315/80R/22.5)? Any
that I have seen have the "bus tire" although it appears in some photos that a
smaller tire is being used. Most buses I have driven in the past 47 years have
had the 12X22.5 tire - and later the metric equivilents. Looking at photos of
the older FC35 coaches, they appear to be equipped with the larger tire. The PT,
I asume, has a smaller "footprint" with 8 tires than a coach with 6 tires. I'm
still a wanabee, so I hope you will tolerate my curiosities. Thanks folks.

Joe, on my coach I have the 12R 22.5 on the front and low profile 24.5 on
the rears. Don't know why this setup is like that on my coach. All the others
have 22.5 all theh way around. Ernie-83pt40 in montana

Welcome to the forum Joe:

Most of the FC's and PT's came out of the Factory with 11 R 22.5's. The 12
R's were an option at the time of ordering. If the 12 R 22.5 option was
ordered, the data plate above the windshield, centered, shows the original
tire that came on that coach.

Most older BBs use the 11R22.5 16 ply tire which is probably the most
popular tire in trucking.

Joe(Pappy),

Our 77 FC (Gas)is still wearing 10x20 shoes on Alcoa rims. I think
that was the last year for the 20" rims - seems to coincide with the
change in '78 to the 3208 Cat as the "standard" poweplant. Some
owners of the 70's FC 'Birds have upgraded to the 8.25x22.5 rims and
11x22.5 tires. That upgrade is certainly on my wish list, especially
since our tires are older than dirt and need replacement badly.

It should be noted, the 7.5 wheels and the 11R22.5 14 ply rated package
provided by the factory was, and still is marginal, for the real world weight on
an FCs axles.
The suggested pressures of 75 on the rears and 105 on the steers, as the tag on
my 83 states, is off the mark. Reminds me of the Ford Explorer/Firestone
debacle.
