Rob, my coach has been slow, also. Do you remember your rpm's at the poinnt
where you could not make forward progress? Ernie-83pt40 in montana [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

Rob. With my 83 PT 35 i have been on some hills as you describe and have not
had any problem. You may want to check and make sure you are droping into first gear. The air cylinder on the throttle may also be gumbed a little. You may also try removing the line into the cylinder and putting a few drops of oil into the cylinder. Paul in Ky 83PT35 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

throttle control
I ran into a situation today that made me a little uncomfortable.. we
were leaving a campgrond this morning and had to stop for a stop sign at the top of a steep hill. Our sweet running 6v92 was not able to pull out straight up. It didn't have the power. The toad made it impossible to back down very far, but I was able to cock it sideways slightly to recover, and, after a fight was able to proceed forward.Lucky lucky. This coach has always been a little slow out of the chute, but until now has not been a problem. It runs great otherwise. My question to youall is this.. Is there an adjustment on the throttle that can help? thanks! Rob Sargent 85pt366v98. |

I had a detroit two cycle man to readjust it so this nolonger happens to me this fuel adjustment is referd to as a California setting. Rob, I believe Bob Loomas said that there is a "California" modification in
there. I talked to him about that and he said mine must have been removed. I smoke a lot on start ups but still have power. Not much speed, though. But-- with all the weight, it's better then standing still. Ernie-83pt40 in montana- leaving for Texas Tuesday [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

It sounds like from your responces that there is an adjustment. In the near future, I will contact a dd shop and have them take a look. Thanks! Rob Sargent 85pt36. |

Ernie,
The Kal modification is the addition of a damper on the throttle. When you floor the pedal, it limits how fast the the throttle will open to prevent that great cloud of black smoke by allowing the engine/turbo to get up to speed slowly. If removed, you can still drive with no smoke by carefully modulating the foot throttle with judicious use of the rear mirrors----smoke, back off; no smoke, more throttle. The nice thing about removing the damper is that when you do floor it, you do get that little bit of more umph when you need it... Will be heading out the pass right around January 1st or so, maybe earlier.... going south to see two shoes, if he'll let us, Jack too! then on to Quartzsite until the 14th...then to Utah, and Texas. Got space? I'll bring the wine. Wallace and Faye are definitely on our list. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
