basement door strut part number
Does anyone have a part number for the basement compartment doors,
both the large front door(PT40) and the smaller rear compartment(PT40)? I had replaced the struts on the front compoartment door on the curb side. The numbers on the gas springs don't jive with anything at Orr & Orr. If you have part numbers for these 2 different doors, would appreciate that information. Thanks Jay Darst 85PT40 Springfield, IL |

basement door strut part number
Jay,
Every strut on my coach is bad. I priced replacements at a local auto parts store they were about $40.00 per set. I use bungie cords to hold them open works great cost $4.74 for all I needed at Wal Mart. If you want to make something that will hold them up get you some heavy or thick wall PVC or Copper Pipe and cut it the length of the extended ram. Unfasten one end of the strut and slide the pipe over the strut and reattach the strut. If you have it cut to the right length when you open the door the ram pulls out from the strut and the pipe drops under the edge of the strut and holds the door open. When you get ready to close the door push up on the door, push in slightly on the pipe so the strut can slide down inside the pipe. You only need one pipe per door and put it on the right side if you are right handed. You will never have to worry about struts again. I have a more elaborate one on the rear engine access door. I guess it was OE. Howard O. Howard, that is what I have on my engine compartment. It has held that heavy
door for years. I'm going to add those pipes to the rest of the lower compartments. Ernie-83pt40- on my way out of town, again. -----Original Message----- From: Howard O. basement door strut part number
Jay,
I did a quick search on the archives and here are some relevant posts: ------------- Date: Sun, 11 Jan 2004 20:00:24 -0000 From: "ac7880" Subj: gas struts - help w/ part numbers & source I located my receipt for the struts. H9412-35, gas prop - 35 lb (I used these for inside overhead cabinets), $10.05 each (ordered March 2002). FBN12G, Gas spring - 90 lb (I used for outside compartments. "Very Strong" spring, consider replacing in pairs to avoid chancing warping the door. If they have a lighter pound spring consider it.) $22.55 each, in March 2002. Free catalog, part no MH2000/20 . http://www.orrorr.com Orr & Orr, 3520 S. Morgan St. Chicago, IL 60609-1524 (773)254-0022 Dan, 83 FC35 ------------------- Date: Thu, 11 Mar 2004 09:19:02 -0700 From: Frederick Leonhardt Subj: Orr & Orr Door Strut Part Numbers >From Orr & Orr I used the 35lb strut inside (H9412-35) and the 80lb strut outside (FBN12E). On the inside units, there's a metal retaining clip that you have to pry out to release the old strut (new ones pop right in). On the outside struts, you can just twist off the old old ones, and pop the new ones in place. Try to prop open the door with some wood so you don't have to hold the door on your head while you try to wrestle the new strut into place. A paint stirring stick works good for the inside doors; a 2X4 for the outside doors. Alb.
