oil leak
some of you have seen the residual oil splatter on my coach, trailer
and toad. I washed the engine real good and drove 100 miles to Brenda's uncles house for Thanksgiving. He had been a diesel mechanic and diagnosed the problem. My turbo seal is leaking. Will have to R/R the turbo this coming week and hopefully be abale to get to the rally in Boerne. Ernie-83pt40 currently in Brownwood, Tx- with a sick bird |

oil leak
I noticed a few drops of oil on the concrete coming from the drivers
side just behind the front bumper. This is the area that has a rats nest of wires bundeled togather, all the wires were soaked with oil. The oil looks clean a slight yellowish color "not motor oil". Opened up the radiator and could find no leaks from the engine, bottom of engine is also clean.Removed the battery box found a little oil in it, this came form oil that had dripped on the front battery. Checked the leveling system valve controls they were all clean no oil. Looked at steering gear box and could find no leaks. Anyone got any ideas, what have I overlooked??? Thanks Don Jones 83FC35SB |

Iwould be looking at the power steering or the levelers if they are up
front on that coach more than likely power steering leak?? In that area, I would guess power steering fluid. Check the hydraulic line
running from the pump to the steering column at the steering column end. It is hard to see/find. You will need a flashlight. Once you have found it, then from memory run your skinny arm up the line to discover dampness on the outside of the line, or not. dandarst86fc35rbhuntleyil. >From: "jones47687" >Reply-To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com >To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com >Subject: [WanderlodgeForum] Oil Leak >Date: Sun, 11 Dec 2005 05:02:20 -0000 > >I noticed a few drops of oil on the concrete coming from the drivers >side just behind the front bumper. oil leak
Thanks Stephen and Dan.
I checked the power steering and leveling hoses the connections are dry and also the hoses except where the oil has driped from the wires onto them. Same with the steering gear box. It's hard to tell for sure where the leak is originating, but it almost looks like most of the oil shows up where that big bundle of wires goes through the floor under the dash. This may be from wind pressure forcing the oil up the raceway. After looking closer at the oil that has collected on some of the wires I would say it is motor oil. Again thanks for the suggestions. oil leak
Don,
I had a '78 FC with a power steering leak that came out of the top seal where the steering input shaft went in. I was able to pull the steering wheel up and replace the seal. It dripped down where it was almost impossible to see, but when I pulled the cover off the steering wheel shaft, the insulation padding was soaked. One of those "Oh No" clues! oil leak
Found the problem it was a oil pressure switch located in front of
the steering colum under the upper dash. Thanks to everyone for suggestions. oil leak
On my coach, I was losing 4 quarts of oil in 200 miles. It was the seal that the turbo plate rests on. They have to remove the turbo and that plate. Cost was around 600 bucks. Takes a while to do this repair.
