Where to start with an air problem
I just went out to move my 79 FC31 and could not get the air pressure up past
75, and hence couldn't unlock my brakes. Everything had been working great, though I haven't used the bus in several months. I'm just wondering where a logical place to start touble shooting would be and what I should look for. Thanks John Fitz 79 FC31 3208 Maynard MA |

Listen to the spitter on the air dryer. If the spring inside that keeps it

Where to start with an air problem
Morning John:
Not sure if you have an air drier in your year of Coach. If so, then try removing the 1/4 inch line from the fitting going into the pressure relief valve, if air starts to build then the relief valve needs a re build kit. If no air drier then open the dog house and on the curb side of the CAT toward the front, you will see your air compressor. Behind the air compressor is where the air governor is mounted. Check the 2 1/4 rubber hoses for air leaks there. If nothing found, replacing the governor is no big thing and the cost should be around $20.00 at any truck repair shop, for the part. Then check for an air leak on the spring break valve under the right side of the dash by your knee. Just some ideas for you. Where to start with an air problem
If you have shop air and a place to hook it up to the bus ( may need
to make an adapter or hookup after compressor on bus), pressurize the bus with shop air and listen for the leak. You wont have the cat noise to compete with. I do have shop air; I hadn't even thought of that! You guys have given me some pretty logical starting places. I'll let you know how it goes. John,
I had the same exact problem when I went to start my bird to take it to Holland, Mi, back in Dec. It also had been sitting for about 6 weeks. After my initial panic, a slight tap with a hammer on the governor (where the airline comes out) while the motor was running cleared it right up. It was fine after that. My guess is that something was slightly stuck from sitting and just needed a little persuasion.
