Selling Our '86 PT38
I've mulled this over for a week now. I refuse to pay $100/mo for taxes to
own this rig! In SD the registration was approx $300/yr. In St. George, with all
the "fees" it is $1,200/yr. I can't do it! I've spent a week trying to talk
myself into it. I can handle the deprecation, the insurance, the upkeep....but
I just can't give Uncle Sam this much money every year, knowing it will never
end. The tax office already told me the Bluebird is at the bottom of the
depreciation table, so the "fees" won't drop much.

I could lie and say I still live in SD....but that isn't in my nature. In my
BC (before Christ) days I would have had no problem doing that. Looks like I'm
going to be buying a used 4x4 Chevy Duramax and a fifth wheel to avoid the
tax bite.

I'll be selling this one in the mid 60's. Most of you know the previous
owner, as he is a frequent poster here. Between him and I (mainly him) there is
a
stack of receipts an inch high, totaling over $20,000 in upgrades and
improvements since '03. Heck just 2 weeks ago I put in a 23" Sony LCD TV on a
removable
bracket, so I can put the TV in the bedroom of our house, when the rig is in
storage. It's even got a full tank of fuel (300 gallons), as I wasn't planning
on selling it.....until I talked to the County Assessor's Office.

I agree. Before you sell, work hard at finding some place where you can
register it other than home state. I think you have to incorporate in
Montana but one year of your fees should pay for that and it's legal.

Don't let the tax man determine your lifestyle.

BEFORE YOU SELL YOUR BLUE BIRD, please look into Montana registration
via a Montana holding company. Your coach is old enough to qualify
for permanent registration, one time only. Bennett Law Office, P.C.,
1-866-543-5803 and ask about an LLC.

I had Benett Law form an LLC and registered my bus in Montana, toad
too. It was very fast, had my plates and registrations in less than
a week. The wohle thing cost around $1200. Every year after the
total cost is less than $200 per year, can't remember exactly.

If you talk to John Bennett tell him James says hello.

Ok, Steve,

$1,200 versus $300. Net $900 more. I hate to pay the government
anything. What is the "tax" on the Duramax and 5th Wheel? Will it
be worth it to loose such a nice Bird? I know the coach and former
owner.

Sorry you are having to pay so much for your bird.
Here in Washington, I just paid $141 for the year and that included
$30 for personalized plates.
