Chassis Heaters hose

Does anyone know what inside diameter hose is used to supply engine
coolant/water/antifreeze to the chassis heaters in our Birds?

Is there a quality of hose that is considered to be the "best"?

I have heard talk of a silicone impregnated hose...but have not been
able to find true life experiences with it.

Has anyone replaced ALL of these hoses? Am considering replacing ALL
of these hoses. I'm sure it will be a really big job. Just don't wanto
to be fixing them in the wrong place at the wrong time or 1 today
another tomorrow, etc.

Been there done a lot of that. 1" is the size. I buy the stupid expensive
silicone hose from NAPA. It's like 7 bucks a foot.
I did have a failure with it on the truck, I suspect it was due to too tight a
run, piece needed an additional inch of length, other than that no problems.
You need to use the double wrap clamps, the silicone cuts easy, but that aside,
it's supposed to last a long time. All the under side hose was replaced on my
FC, fortunately they used the silicone product. My recirc pump leaked, replaced
with a Kysor item, better than the original, about 150 bucks.

Jay if your BB is like mine as far as how the hoses are run, they are
actually long lengths of brass tubing (*and some 90 degree bends )
connected by short lengths of 1" heater hose. When I redid my 1982
FC35 I bought the best heater hose at NAPA . I also bought 1" foam
tubes similar to what is used to insulate water heater copper tubing
and baseboard heaters and covered the runs with it held on with black
tie wraps. I would be interested in if your 85PT40 is put together
since I will have to look at mine shortly.

Why wouldn't those new type Pex hoses work on our chassis heaters?

Because its not what you need and would be more difficult to install.
The chassis heaters (at least in mine) are long lengths of what
appears to be brass tubing that is connected together with 1 inch
heater hose. That is covered with a foam insulation. When I started
my rebuilding of it, needed one more section of the brass tubing and
stopped at BB for it. I was told that it is no longer available.
However they were nice enough to let me ask some of the workers on
the assembly line about it and one old fellow (he must have been at
least 45) got me one out of his locker.

Thanks for replying to question regarding heater hose, appreciate it
very much.

Has anyone with a 84 1/2 - 87 PT40 completed a replacement of ALL
heater hoses?

Would love to hear about that process.
