Diesel Smell

Diesel Smell
Good point, George. I had the diesel smell in my bays on the '95
for the first few months. Strong when opening a bay door. I had
the AquaHot fully serviced when it stopped firing and the diesel
smell disappeared. Worth a try.

Diesel Smell
Curt, Kerry, maybe you could enlighten me. First of all, would you
please tell me how long it takes diesel fuel to evaporate, I have a
spot in my drive! As we all know diesel has alot of oil in it.
While I fully understand how the tester works I am struggling with
this application. The tester while very sensitive, does not "think".
If a fuel leak were to travel down a wire loom, or along a frame rail
and then drip, would the sniffer take you to the source of the leak?
I would think that it sniffs you to the highest concentration of the
source. THE DRIP! NOT THE LEAK. The real solution, finding the leak,
might be 15ft away. I am sorry visual inspection is necessary! (Jim,
you gotta have batteries) If the leak drips onto the carpet in the
bay in this case, and you sniff within inches, it will sound off like
a banshee, corrrect? Again, the highest concentration of the
hydrocarbons (uh was that the term?). But the fitting 15' down the
fuel line is actually the cause "the leak" Curt, in your test you
were getting closer to the source fuel in the tank. I realize we have
gotten off topic, somewhat, but I am trying to help Jim keep from
chasing dead ends with the wrong tester...seems he has done enough of
that. His heating system is probably the culpret.

Maybe I am the one that was sleeping in science class, but I was sure
awake during "problem solving"

Diesel Smell
Jim, It sounds like the oder source is key to your repair. As Curt
said the Sniffer may be the best tool. In the very least it would
document the existance of a problem that the manufacturer has with
their underwarranty product. After reading the helpful responces to
your post, I would isolate each diesel appliance and rule them out one
ata time. ( now I would start with P test on Aquahot supply) Without
reguard to who must or should do the repairs, you truly need a repair.
AZ Bus 800-843-1287 ( near Ontario Ca airport) may have a fresh set of
mechanics to solve the problem. I see Wanderlodge coaches in their
facility all the time. With their relationship to Bluebird, they may be
able to talk with the tech that returned your coach unrepaired and
avoid retesting the proven appliances. The next step is to call Curt,
he can fix anything

Diesel Smell
You will never find the leak using a sniffer on diesel fuel. The
simplest was is to use dye in the system you are trying to find a
leak in. Tracer products makes a full line of additives for this
purpose. Buy a bottle of Dye-Lite TP3700, add it to your diesel fuel
and then you can find even the smallest leak with a UV light. It
costs about $20.

Diesel Smell
Is this true? I admit that I haven't tried it, but mine has been able
to find LP, Freon, even anti-freeze (Glycol).

Following this post I was thinking that might be another use for the
detector, why won't it work?
