Generator Relay?

Generator Relay?
Jeff you have a 120VAC relay in the control box and it is a Potter
Brumfield KUP14A55-120 (digikey # PB164-ND and costs $12.19. It is
NOT a 6 volt one. This relay is activated when the generator starts
putting out voltage. Open up your control box (top cover is in two
pieces)and look on the back wall of it and give me the control
number, might be faint so show a bright light on it. It should look
something like thisA259972 (this is my control box for a 1982 FC35 BB
with a Kohler generator.). Take a look at the control box I rebuilt
at http://tinyurl.com/hefmm.
The control box is really quite simple and if you are good at
soldering and following a schematic I would upgrade it to a control
box of the 1985 FC models. That eliminates a lot of problems.
As far as replacing the 12.5KW Kohler generator with something more
"modern". I would not for you will be getting a generator that is not
as robust or as reliable. The 12.5KW Kohler generator is an
industrial generator that is designed to run 24/7 for long periods of
time with only preventative maintenance of oil and filters. The
generator portion itself is older technology but I would run it until
it gives out and then replace it with a New Age Stamford solid state
generator that costs about $1000 and connect it to the Perkins
diesel. The Perkins diesel is a wet sleeve engine that can be
rebuilt back to as new condition indefinetely unlike anything that
you will replace it with.
If you need help trouble shooting your control circuits or getting
the relays (which cost a total of about $15.) give me a email off forum.
