Springfield, IL to New York

My family and I are contemplating a trip to New York in June.

Does anyone have any suggestions so far as great campground for a
week or so near or in NY city and what is the best route?

Appears to be very mountainous, toll roads, tunnels, overall PITA
driving. The kinda driving that you wouldn't want to do for 14 or 15
hours.

Hank, will be wanting to hear from you for sure, as you bring the FC
back from NY!

Looks as though there are many options- I70, I76, I78, I80, I90. One
of these has to be a better drive than another for some reason or
another ;~}

Any suggestions are appreciated.
