Maiden Voyage report
We finally picked up our 88 FC35 on Friday. It was located in
Chillicothe Ohio. Arrived late afternoon and verything went smooth until we hooked up the lights to our toad. Someone had changed all the coach wires. Red was left, Blue was right?? After playing around for an hour I got mad and cut all the wires and spliced into my umbilical cord. We hit the road and spent the nite at a Wal Mart. A few minor glitches. When I road tested this baby there was a whistle whenever you tromped the throttle. I figured a turbo leak. He took it to some shop and they had tightened the clamps. First time I had to climb the whistle was still there. I discovered a hose that was on at an angle. But it was stuck to the turbo housing. I finally removed all the clamps but it would not budge. Duck tape to the rescue (shame). Worked OK. So many guages and switches!! I was surprised at how it handled my 4500 lb. Toyota Tacoma. Not a hot rod but alright. The roads on our route were terrible: Ohio.Illinois, Indiana and the worst was Oklahoma. We hitTexas yesterday and it was 90 degrees. The dash air works surprisingly well. But there is a lot of air infiltration on the drivers side. Appears to be down by the steering column. Today we arrived in AZ. It was 101. Engine temp went to 210 to 215. But the fan overide brings it down to 180.Our original 3801 Dometic is cold as freezer in this heat. But I dont trust it. New fridge is on order. We changed the original mattress and it is now heavenly. I must have some air leaks as the iar drops overnite. I also noticed that if you hit the brakes 3 or 4 times in a row the pressure drops way too fast to less than 90. I cannot believe this is normal?? I have more questions but will post them seperately.. Bruce 1988 Fc 35 |
