Cabinet maker?
Hi Pete,
If you are going to employ a cabinet maker, unless you can find an old retired guy who does it as a hobby, be prepared to pay dearly. I have just about finished a 70" wide by 31" deep by 25" high cabinet for our galley in our 1981 35' footer. I gave Tom Seitz my dinette, because we just need more storage. Pictures to be posted when it is completed. I am building the cabinet at the AFB hobby wood shop under the supervision of a master cabinet maker (he runs the shop), All I had to buy are supplies, and pay a user fee of $3.00 an hour, and have just about $400.00 in it now. If I had commissioned OB (the cabinet maker) to do it, he said it would run about $2500.00. We think diesel mechanics are high priced? His hourly fee is $150.00. I am just glad I can do this myself and have this facility to do it in. BTW, I am NOT wood worker and could never have tackled it without a cabinet maker's supervision. The other option you have is to go to Lowe's or Home Depot and see if they can order "ready made" items. I was amazed at what they had available, I just didn't like the price or how they looked. Didn't mean to sound discouraging, but I could not believe how much custom work cost, and I am pretty confident that on the West Coast it is not going to be cheaper.
