Fan question

How do I know what kind of cooling fan I have? I read about the Horton air fan
but am not
sure if mine is a Horton. I think my fan does not run at engine speed most of
the time but
around 195 degrees (usually on a hill or in traffic in hot weather) there is an
obvious
engagement of a fan with a short screech which remains engaged until the
temperature
returns to 180. I've assumed this indicates it is a Horton fan but I am not
sure. Can anyone
explain if there are other kinds of fans that operate in this manner?
