Hello Howard,
I'm no expert on specific engine applications. My recommendation would be to use the weight and type recommended by the engine manufacturer. I noticed that Harvey Lawrence has a document about lube oil in the "Files" section. In that article he says you should only use a single weight oil in a Detroit Diesel due to the type of engine it is. I assume he based that on manufacturer recommendation.
