Replacing The High Pressure Power Steering Hose
I cannot say that you would loose control from the high pressure
power steering hose if it burst, I didn't.

But..I did drive about a half mile, really a hoss to steer..., plus
without lubricant for the pump it could be damaged beyond repair very
rapidly.

To me, ANY leak, air or liquid, is a sure sign to something is
failing, find it -fix it.

Bob Janes-PS hose was on a 77, PS pump was later re-built.
