Air intake cowling
My air intake (PT40) has a grill over the face of it. This keeps large
objects from entering the air intake. When you are drawing air from
that height, you aren't going to ingest a lot of rain unless you're in a
monsoon. This is how mine is positioned. Looks to me like it was
installed that way at the factory.

I put raised air intakes on Land Rovers all the time in my business &
they are all faced forward for maximum air flow. Never had a problem
with rain water and many of these are on diesel engines. They have face
grills on them too.
