only hot water
Ed,
Echoing what Pete said, the Moen valve inserts are readily available at Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace, etc., assuming you want to repair it quickly rather than wait for a lifetime warranty replacement from Moen that Scott mentioned the other day. Just unscrew and remove the handle, remove the backing plate, and there is a "c" clip that you pull out of the stem housing before you can remove the valve insert. FYI, you may end up needing to borrow a puller to get the valve insert out after all these years. I borrowed one from the Ace Hardware guys. The re-build kit is a couple of o-rings, but I would just buy a new insert because the inside of the insert is probably rusted up. You'll want to brush out all the accumulated hard water scum and rust before putting the new insert back in. A plumber's internal copper tubing brush works well. Don't forget to re-insert the "c" clip, and for darn sure don't slip and drop it down the back side of the shower enclosure or you'll really have something to shout about! I don't believe that a new retaining clip came with the insert. Have fun.
