Space Ship TV Antenna
Leroy, just tape several local news broadcasts and put one in when
you get home sick. Its always the same old thing. By the way, at the SW Rally in October I won the "Jeopardy" Contest every night. My vast wealth of knowledge impressed everyone. GregoryO'Connor 94pt with a DVR RomolandCa --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Leroy Eckert" > > Thanks to all for the response: > Just off a lengthy conversation with DISH. This is what I was told. > 1. Distant local channel service is discontinued effective Dec 1, 2006. They get you on a periodic download and that is what happened to me on Saturday. > 2. You will not be able to pick up your home base local channels outside 200 miles(approx). Spot Beam in use. During the conversation I gave the tech the following zip codes followed by the response. > 33619- Tampa, FL. supplied by Tampa-St. Pete stations.(395 miles from my home) > 32578- Niceville, FL supplied by Pensacola-Mobile stations(at home) > 78597- South Padre Island, TX supplied by Harlingen-Brownsville, TX area stations( about 900 miles from my home) > 3. To obtain "local channels" pay a small fee per month, change the zip code in the DISH setup and it is said to work. Otherwise, call and DISH will set it for you. > 4. Local channel service is provided by DISH via Echo 110 > > I have ordered an A/B switch that is supposed to allow me to switch satellites. Otherwise, it is going to be $700.00 to upgrade, and that smells. > > Far to much legal @#$% going on these days.(Still smiling) > Thanks again, > > Leroy Eckert > 1990 WB-40 "Smoke N Mirrors" > Niceville, FL > > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Bruce Morris > To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com > Sent: Monday, December 04, 2006 1:18 AM > Subject: Re: [WanderlodgeForum] Space Ship TV Antenna > > > Leroy, I just replaced my antenna with a new Wingard RS-1500. It is omni-directional and according to the literature it is generally considered to be good for transmitters within a 35 mile radius of the antenna. I figure because I mounted it on the old mount and can raise it when we stop that it might even do a little better. > > Dish now uses a "spot beam" for local programming so my understanding is that you can no longer receive your home stations after you get out of your general coverage area. I don't know exactly how far that is. I hope that we can still pick up our local stations on dish in Florida. We have done it in the past, but I think that was before they went to the spot beam. I'm not sure what the problem was that caused them to change, but since you pay extra for local coverage it seems you should be able to get it anywhere. I presume that local stations somehow objected. I seem to remember that it was a legal issue. Other than that CRS wins. > > Bruce Morris (919)872-7635 Raleigh, NC > Webmaster - WOO (http://www.wanderlodge.us) > 1983 WL FC35RB > > FMCA: 7142s Ham Radio: KI4ME > Vietnam Vet - 1966-67 'Doc' (Navy Corpsman) 3rd MarDiv > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: jwasnewski > To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com > Sent: Sunday, December 03, 2006 10:27 PM > Subject: [WanderlodgeForum] Space Ship TV Antenna > > Does anyone use the old space ship TV antenna on a regular basis?
