I was set up in a similar fashion receiving National Distant Network Services
from NY and LA. I was told by DISH that DirectTV is under the same mandate to
no longer provide distant Network services. It will be interesting to see if
your distant Network service is discontinued soon.
If not, perhaps they do not like the color of my bus (grin)

I replaced the UFO dish with an "upgraded" high definition model a couple of
months ago; I can pull in all of the locals that broadcast in HD over it. I also
have HD DirecTV with HD Distant Network Services which gives me both the NY and
LA national feeds in HD. DirecTV continues to provide me with the local
channels, but not in HD.

I feed the off-air antenna into the DirecTV HD receiver and it functions as a
HD tuner for those stations; the box even gives you a signal strength meter for
those channels that comes in handy when tuning.

I still need to upgrade the rear TV to an HD model, I have a 19" Sony 1080i
LCD mounted under the microwave cabinet currently. It uses the HDMI connection
from the DirecTV receiver. I ran a set of component video cables from the
DirecTV box to the rear bedroom so its all ready to go.
