eBay83 FC for 50k
To Bob and all,
I always appreciate a heads up on things that I am interested in that are for sale, or just available for viewing. It's a good way to stay up with market values and I am always looking for my next "favorite" thing (much to the dismay of my wife). No finger pointing intended by my post, just some random thoughts. Best Wishes to all, Doug n' Pokey one_dusty_hoot Doug said, "Was the activity on this forum part of an orchestrated marketing plan, maybe, but while this is not the place for that, I don't blame them for trying" ---------------------------------------------- I was the person who initially brought this coach to the attention of the forum simply because of how nice it appeared to me and wanted to share. I have no past or present connection with the sellers with the exception I privately asked what kind of camera was used to take the pictures. While the price was hoovering at the 30K mark, I guessed that it would bring 40K, about 5k more than what I would value the coach just because marketing on Ebay had extremely good pictures, and, a good write-up as well. Contrary to photos of this coach, I have seen pictues on Ebay that were too dark and a person had to guess what was there. What kind of marketing is that for crying out loud? To me, the pictures of this coach may look better than the coach shows standing looking at it in person. That would be a let-down, wouldn't it? The seller agreed to one person's question as to whether or not the seller would accept an pre- purchase inspection of the high bidder, the seller did not oppose this. The bid surprised me bringing more than I paid for an '87 in decent condition, however, life is full of surprises, isn't it? A lesson in marketing?, perhaps? bobjanes, '87FC35, greenville, sc --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, Doug Engel wrote: > > OK, I'll jump in... > I sell a fair amout of stuff on Ebay, it is a garage sale marketplace as far as I'm concerned. I have sold everything from old service station signage to Porsches, a 1988 BMW M5, motorcycles of a variety of flavors and the list could go on. I purchased my 1978 GMC Palm Beach off of Ebay and originally found Pokey there (by the way, the opening bid on Pokey was 20K, no one ever made an opening bid, it didn't sell through Ebay). I like and dislike Ebay, but I have NEVER had an Ebay sale bring top of the market, and I've sold some nice stuff. I haven't monitored EVERY sale...but it has not been my experience that Ebay is the place to get the most out of a sale. Are there often schill bidders, yes. Do auctions often end early with a buyer who originally found the item on Ebay and then works out a purchase outside of the auction, yes. Is this OK, yes. Do winning bidders often fail to complete a purchase, you bet! My point is, Ebay is a great selling tool, but unlike any > other I have dealt with, I take everything on there, vehicle descriptions (and I agree that this Bird is far nicer than most, at least from the picures) and selling prices with a grain of salt. > One point that has not been touched on is that to sell a vehicle for another person really requires a dealers license. It does in Colorado and I am nearly positive that it does in Texas as well. I bought a car on Ebay that was being sold by one person and actually owned by another, it was a mess. Not that this situation will be, but who are you actually buying the car from? Ebay does not regulate if sellers have dealers licenses, it's not their job, but selling a car for another person without a license is against the law in most states, it is that way to protect the buyer, it's why I have to carry a bond. Just a word to the wise... > Is the Rig nice? Sure looks like it! Was it misrepresented, not that I know of. Was the activity on this forum part of an orchestrated marketing plan, maybe, but while this is not the place for that, I don't blame them for trying. Is that rig worth 30K more than Pokey...not in my book. In reality, items for sale are only worth, in real dollars, what someone else is willing to pay, so if the sale goes through, the rig was worth the 50K+...to someone. > It will be interesting to see if it resurfaces for sale someplace else for sale, seems to be alot of eyes watching. > Doug Engel, Gunnison, CO, 1981 FC35SB "Pokey" > > > > > > > We did not do anything to misrepresent this coach in any way..... > > Hmmmmmm, I re-read my comments and I see nothing that implies that you > mis-represented anything.
