In my opinion the SP36 should not concern you about the carrying capacity,we had
a 91 SP36 and as I recall it was something around 2500 lbs. but it was too long
ago to recall.

Regarding painting the laminate,it seems you can get a prep chemical to use
prior to paint applying. I would check with a wood refinisher or paint
specialist.
