Odd 1979
I guess you can call this coach an oddity, but the design was intentional. I
do not believe this is a pusher chassis. Remembering that 1979 was pre
pusher, what Blue Bird did was stack a second FC frame on top of the original.
There are a number of advantages to this design the major one is that the wheel
"humps" are eliminated which makes for a nice flat floor throughout the coach.
BB did not take too much advantage of the flat floor though as the floor
plans remained pretty much the same as other FC's. Another nicety is that the
outside accessible storage compartments have a lot more room. Since the 1979
the coaches had leaf spring suspension there must be a huge amount of room,
almost standing room, to work under the coach. Even my "Normal" 79 has far more
room under it than air suspension 80s models. There must be at least one more
entrance step added.

The bumpers for the XV's are huge. They are also double stacked. Most seem
to be painted. having had three bumpers chromed in the last four years at over
a thousand $ plus per bumper, I think I understand why. Just finding a
chromer with a large enough tank could be a problem.

These coaches are certainly somewhat rare but there are several on the
market, reasonably priced at this time. It has been my observation that about
half
of these coaches have been upgraded with the 250 hp engines as has mine. I
believe that BB made a number of after market turbo engine upgrades. I would be
somewhat leary of a replaced/upgraded dash. In 79 BB did not perform the
finest of electrical work under dash. It would be something to look at anyway.

Can anyone explain this oddity? How many FC's did Wanderlodge make on
'pusher chassis'?
