Over charging alternator
Ron,
I have a 88 WLWB XXV 8V92 with two alternators. I had a similar problem with my front alternator. I think that the regulator must burn out intermittent short or something. I was getting a high charge rate and high aperage also. I replaced both alternators as the rear one was shot, I have driven probally 2500 miles. havn't had a problem since. The pulleys on my alternators are odd so don't just give them up when replacing. We had to look around to find an extra one for my back up alternator. The rear on in my coach is eaiser to replace than the front one. I don't have a hole in the floor but do have an opening in front of the engine that I stuff someone into, i just must have a rope tied to a leg so that I pull out when repair is complete Jim RIordan '88 wlwb XXV ronmarabito2002 I lost my alternators back in October from an over charge rate. Re-built just one of the units and it charged correctly until yesterday (1400 miles since re-build) and went to 16 volts and 100 amps output again. The other alternator was not connected and has not been re-built. I found out that this can be caused by loosing the circuit,(Open circuit) such as, losing the connection of the battery cable on the alternator. Anyone know of a similar case that would aid me in troubleshooting this problem. Since the alternator is the front unit under the bedroom floor on my 92WB40, I do not intend to remove the floor till I get home. I've disconnected the alternator and now running my generator and charging from the battery chargers. Hate to put that many hours on the genset, but don't want to waste time during this trip trying to find what's causing this problem. Give me any thoughts you might have. R.E.
